Skycam and Actioncam Battle Over Trade Secrets

Aerial camera maker Skycam filed a lawsuit against competitor Actioncam in the United States District Court in Los Angeles. T

The lawsuit alleges that Actioncam infringed on Skycam’s copyrights and misappropriated trade secrets. Specifically, the lawsuit alleges that former Skycam chief engineer, Patrick J. Bennett, left the company to found Actioncam. After founding Actioncam, Bennett used the technical and client information he learned from his time at Skycam, in violation of confidentiality agreements. This allowed Actioncam to release the next generation aerial camera in advance of Skycam, resulting in monetary damages to Skycam.

Bennett defends the suit by stating that “It’s clear that we have developed a brand-new, next-generation system from the ground up, and I haven’t used any of the information they claim I used.”
